Global Village

The Global Village is for women who want to live in a community with others who, regardless of major or career focus, share similar interests in self-development in areas such as foreign language proficiency, gaining inter-cultural appreciation, achieving global awareness, applying burgeoning leadership skills and/or making a difference locally and globally. Students living in the Global Village develop close relationships with faculty, institutes and centers affiliated with the unit topic. Most of the Global Village communities are located within the Jameson Residence Hall, with the exception of one community being housed within the Woodbury Residence Hall. The Global Village offers students a unique residential environment: the program combines curricular and co-curricular activities designed to enhance each student’s overall college experience and provide her with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective global citizenship and leadership. This goal is achieved by combining academic course work, village-wide programming and group or individual study abroad opportunities for which special funding is available. There are currently eight Global Village units. These units include:

GLOBAL VILLAGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Students must apply and be admitted into the Global Village. Continuing students will complete the application during the housing selection process.
- New students MUST complete the general housing application located in your Enrollment Pathway as well as the Douglass Living Learning Application - Global Village. Click here for the application. The application deadline is June 15th.
- Once admitted, all residents are required to enroll in a mandatory 1.5 credit house course each semester pertaining to the theme of the house. This course is offered on Mondays during the Douglass 7th period and is taught in residence by a graduate fellow who serves as both a teacher and mentor to the residents of their house. The language house course will be taught in the language of the respective house.
- Students must enroll in one additional 3-credit course (either in the fall or spring) that pertains to the house mission.
- Residents must help plan and implement Global Village events sponsored by the various language, cultural and topical issue houses.
